About the event
Somerset Mammal Group is holding three training sessions across Somerset this autumn.
Each session will start with a short introduction to the Harvest Mouse, its nests, and surveying and recording techniques. This will be followed by an on-site survey and recording of any nests found. We will be looking for empty summer nests that are no longer occupied; therefore, no mice will be disturbed or seen.
No previous experience is required, just a keen eye to spot the nests amongst the dense grasses! These training sessions will equip you with all the knowledge required to carry out your own survey for harvest mouse nests. SMG would encourage you to then submit your records to the National Harvest Mouse Survey (NHMS) and Somerset Environmental Records Centre.
